At the beginning of 2016, I received an art grant from the Kelola Foundation to intern as an assistant program manager at Selasar Sunaryo Art Space for three months, until the end of June 2016. This experience has let me discover new ways while working in the field of arts management. Selasar Sunaryo has entrusted me with the internal responsibility. I found some interesting new things and I had the opportunity to discuss with the owner of the art space as well as an artist (mr. Sunaryo) about the arts management practices in Bandung. Bandung’s working practices differ significantly from those in Jogja. The style of work in Jogja is more freely expressed as a community-based practice, while the practice in Bandung is more structured because there aren’t too many art communities as in Jogja, so the system serves the needs of established gallery or the art institution.
